This course is for those with little to no experience of wheel throwing. You will be taught the basics of throwing on the wheel, starting with the simple cylinder form. You will also be taught how to turn and decorate your work using slips and underglaze. Clay, tools and firing is provided. Please provide your own apron and hand towel.  You will finish up with a maximum of 8 pieces to take home (extra pieces will be fired at a charge of $15 per piece).

Schedule

Saturday: Learn how to prepare clay for throwing, centre clay on the wheel and throw a cylinder, and shape a bowl.

Sunday: How to trim/turn the bottom of your pieces and decorate using underglaze, sgraffito, and incising.

There will be a lunch break each day.

Pieces will be glazed fired and returned to you at a later date (approximately 2-4 weeks following the workshop).

By booking a class or workshop with Biddy Pots, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

1. Pottery Pieces

  • Each student can keep up to the maximum number of pieces specified in class description.
  • If you wish to keep additional pieces, a charge of $15 per extra pot will apply.
  • Finished pieces will be ready for pick-up 2 to 6 weeks after the final session, depending on the firing schedule.
  • You will receive an email notification once your pieces are ready. Please collect them within 3 months of receiving the notification. Uncollected pots will be disposed of after this period due to limited storage space.

2. Booking and Attendance

  • Before booking, please ensure you can attend all scheduled sessions, as missed sessions cannot be made up.

3. Cancellations and Refunds

  • More than 7 days prior to the class block start date: A full refund is available.
  • Within 7 days of the class block start date: A 50% refund is available, or you may transfer your spot to a friend or family member.
  • After the workshop has commenced: No refunds are available for cancellations or missed sessions.

4. Health and Safety

  • All participants must follow safety guidelines provided during the workshop.
  • Biddy Pots is not responsible for any injuries sustained during the workshop due to failure to follow instructions or safety protocols.
